What is Taekwondo?
Taekwondo is a modern martial art, characterized by its fast, high and spinning kicks. There are multiple interpretations of the name Taekwondo. Taekwondo is often translated as 'the way of hand and foot.'
The AAU Taekwondo program offers the following types of competition:
Olympic Style Sparring
Point Style Sparring
Forms Competition
Team Forms Competition
Local tournaments may also offer Breaking Competition & Creative Forms
The AAU Taekwondo program is the only organization that offers something for all Taekwondo athletes! Competition for ages 5 & up including all belt ranks from beginners to Black Belts. It truly is a grassroots, family experience enjoyed by all!
AAU National Team
Each year the AAU Taekwondo Program selects a National team. Those who place 1st thru 4th at the current year's AAU Taekwondo National Championships in the 14-17 year old Black Belt Olympic Style Sparring Divisions and Senior Black Belt Olympic Style Sparring Divisions, along with current Junior and Senior AAU Taekwondo Team Members (in good standing) will be invited to that year's AAU Taekwondo Team Trials. The AAU National Team attends an International competition every year, giving the athletes the experience of competing against the world’s best athletes. In 2010, the team traveled to the Spanish Open in Alicante, Spain. |
